Okinawan Kobudo

There are numerous Okinawan Kobudo (weapon) katas that are available to a practicing Karate student. They vary greatly in their complexity and application. Some involve the use of strikes, as well as blocks to be performed. The weapons practiced by students of the OKKA are the Bo, Fan, Jo, Sai, Nunchaku, Tonfa, Escrima and Yawara.

Many of the weapons began life as everyday tools that were adapted by the peasants and farmers of feudal Okinawa to defend themselves. This was necessary because they were forbidden by the rulers at that time to posses edged weapons of any description.
